Don't Be Late
There are few moments more anxiety inducing for a photographer than having the sky burst with color before they're in position to capture it. On this fall morning in the Adirondacks, I thought that I had budgeted enough time to get to my desired location before sunrise, but as I drove to the trailhead, hints of magenta and purple began to appear in the cloudy sky far earlier than I had anticipated. Fortunately, after 10 minutes of speed walking after I parked, I was able to set up shop just as the vibrant sunrise light began to skim the face of the mountain that was across the lake from me.. With no time to waste, I quickly committed to the composition seen here, and was drawn to the way that the overhanging tree branches and lakeside vegetation framed the mountain. Although I got lucky that I wasn’t too late for the light show, next time I’ll set my alarm 15 minutes earlier to avoid the unnecessary stress and anxiety!
