Mystery Island
When I first discovered this tiny island with a single evergreen tree sprouting from it in the middle of a pond in the Adirondacks, I immediately knew that there was a photo to be made. I also realized that to capture the image that I desired, which would highlight the island and its resilient little tree, I would need to wait for there to be a dense fog to help simplify the scene and block the forest in the background, which I found to be distracting and shift attention from the island. Fortunately, I didn't have to wait long to capture the image that I desired, as the morning after discovering this scene, I woke to find that one of the densest fogs I've ever experienced had cloaked the earth in its mysterious veil overnight. When I arrived back at the pond, I was delighted to discover that the fog shrouded the background distractions just as I hoped it would and brought the one tree island to the forefront, allowing me to capture the photo seen here of Mystery Island.
