  • Freshly fallen maple leaves rest on a piece of birch bark in the Adirondack Mountains.
    Treasures of the Forest
  • Colorful fall foliage surrounds the bare trunk and branches of a birch tree. Adirondack Mountains, New York.
    Skeleton Crew
  • Lush ferns and birch trunks along an Adirondack lake.
    Signs of Summer
  • Early morning light illuminates colorful maple and birch leafs in Maine's Acadia National Park.
    Morning Intimacy
  • Birch trees catch the sunrise light on a calm and foggy autumn morning in the beautiful Vermont countryside.
    Be Still
  • Partly cloudy days, when the fall forest seems to glow from the sunlight filtering through the clouds, are perfect for a stroll in the woods. Can you spot the hiker out for a morning walk in this photo?
    I Spy
  • Delicate morning fog glows with the soft light of sunrise over a mountainside bursting with every fall color imaginable. Adirondack Mountains, New York.
    Radiance
  • Fallen leaves blanket the trail as the remaining ones above seem to glow with diffuse morning light. Adirondack Mountains, New York.
    Wander
  • The motion of fallen leaves swirling in the eddy of a creek was revealed using a multi-second exposure. Even after fall colors are past peak, as the leaves begin to drop new opportunities for photography are created. Adirondack Mountains, New York.
    Relativity
  • After three days of backpacking through the Maine wilderness, climbing over rocky passes and scrambling down precipitous mountain ledges, I was mentally and physically drained as I shuffled the final miles to my last campsite of the trip at Chimney Pond. As I stopped to finish off the last of my water, I turned around to see the evening sun bursting through the beautiful hardwood forest, and thankfully had enough energy even in my dazed state to set up my camera and capture this photo. Baxter State Park, Maine.
    Dazed & Confused
  • Beautiful fall colors reflect in a still pond on a misty October morning. Acadia National Park, Maine.
    Autumn's Gift
  • A birch tree in Vermont slowly sheds its old and scraggly outer bark to reveal a new, unblemished inner layer.
    In With the New
  • This large birch tree in the verdant Vermont forest didn't let a boulder stop it from flourishing, it simply decided to grow right around it! The next time I'm faced with a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, I'll think about this tree as motivation.
    I Will Find a Way
  • Vibrant autumn colors pop along the banks of a creek in the Hoffman Notch Wilderness. The scenery and solitude that I found in this corner of the Adirondacks, even on a holiday weekend, was a pleasant surprise after deciding to brave the wet, rainy weather on this October afternoon.
